Understanding Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP)
CHIP helps uninsured children get health care coverage. To get CHIP, children must:
- be under the age of 19
- have no health insurance
Families who cannot get Medicaid may get CHIP for their children. Families with no health insurance may get CHIP for their children even if they work.
For a small fee or no cost, CHIP pays for:
- Doctor visits
- Immunizations
- Hospitalizations
- Emergency room visits
