Issue Defined

Health literacy is educating members so that they can understand the complexities of health care and make informed decisions about their personal health care.

Recommendations

We use health educators and various tools to help our members sort through the "alphabet soup" of health care so that they can understand their health care needs. By educating our members, they are enabled to make better decisions regarding their care such as utilizing the appropriate resources so they can receive timely personalized care at their time of need.

Patients and their families are enabled to become active, informed partners in their care and health maintenance.
