Managed care has a thousand faces.
For 1.7 million Amerigroup members across America, managed care has a very human face. It’s Bobby’s. Or Gayle’s. Or one of a thousand other Amerigroup care managers who go above and beyond to help them get the care they need.
Establishing personal relationships with the people who benefit from publicly funded health programs is one thing that sets us apart from other managed care companies.
Another is that we’re specialists. Amerigroup manages Medicaid, CHIP, and Medicare programs for disadvantaged and underserved Americans in 11 states. This is all we do—and every year we’ve developed new ways to do it better.
One-to-one service
Navigating the health care system can be hard for anyone. For people who may be very young or very old, who lack education, money, transportation, and may not speak English, it’s even harder. These are the people we serve. And we’ve learned that simply giving our members a single point of contact—one person who guides them through the paperwork and answers their questions—makes a world of difference.
Top-rated disease management programs
A hospital emergency department is a very expensive place for medical care so we’ve created some innovative programs that teach people how to stay in control of chronic diseases like asthma and diabetes and how to manage their pregnancies and have healthy babies. We take the time to sit down with our members and walk them through the process that they're facing—a little information and education can relieve a lot of stress.
Quality really does cost less
Sounds counterintuitive, of course, but our 15 years’ experience shows why this is true. By helping our members get to the doctor, learn how to take better care of themselves, and understand how to get treatment from their own doctor instead of the ER, we’re improving their health and their quality of life.
Doctor visits cost less than emergency rooms. Home health care costs less than inpatient institutional care. Self-care programs are worth every dollar we invest and the benefits are huge from every perspective. So by helping people stay healthier and live independently, we’re keeping medical costs down and providing budget certainty for our customers as well.
